Considering My Resolutions

It's that time of year again when we consider making New Year's Resolutions. Some of us make resolutions that give us choices like the kitty below. I like that idea.

Some of us just throw in the towel right at the get go. Why set yourself up to fail, right? I'm not sure I agree with this sentiment. Give it a try. I think it's good to think about change in the new year. Just don't give yourself the undoable.

Or you can give yourself resolutions that are easy to do. This goes along with the idea of giving up liver for Lent.

According to www.about.com there are recurring resolutions year after year. Here are the top ten resolutions. No real surprises here:
1. Spend more time with family and friends
2. Fit in fitness
3. Tame the bulge
4. Quit smoking
5. Enjoy life more
6. Quit drinking
7. Get out of debt
8. Learn something new
9. Help others
10. Get organized
I am all over numbers 1, 5, 8, and 9. I guess I am a give up liver for Lent kind of gal. My two favorite resolutions from past years were to read as many books as I could with the word moon in the title and I learned to make lampwork beads with a group of friends. Yes, I need to lose weight and exercise more. And sure no one is ever organized enough. But that's work I need to do regardless of what time of year it is. Resolutions should be fun and open up new worlds and experiences. Just my two cents. I will think hard between now and January 1. What will you resolve to do?

Home Again

It's Wednesday evening and I am home again. I had a lovely holiday with my girls and their families. Amber and Mike and the kids will be up for the New Year. I came home early to get some food in the fridge, You know to pretend that I actually do cook. I'm feeling quite up to date. I have my laptop on my new stand from IKEA. They named it Dave. Dave was easy to put together and is very comfortable to use. No more hot legs. I also got a wireless mouse. Yes I have been using the touchpad for years. The mouse is sooo much easier. Hey Amber, the group of pictures below remind me of Beansie's Christmas outfit. Cool Huh?

Hee-hee a banana boat.

I really believe in the sentiment below. I've had a weird year of many unanticipated events. I believe all things happen for a reason. I look forward to 2011 being full of good times and great friends.

Dreamy Bedrooms

I'm loving these bedrooms. They are all so peaceful. I like the wood paneling below. It is so clean and bright. The choice of bed covers is nice too.

This one combines the wood and a tree on the wall!. I am still thinking of having birches painted in my dining room. So pretty.

I like the desk at the end of the bed in this room. I have room for something at the end of my bed and I had only considered a trunk or a bench.

I like the Roman shades in this room and the shelf? thing behind the bed for the lamps.

Beansie's First Modeling Job!

Hooray for Facebook! Thanks to modern technology, Beans was featured in an open model call for a photographer in Grand Blanc, Suzanne Upton Photography, taking pictures for the Etsy site, 7 Sprouts. Here is her first photo! We hope they will use her pretty pics!

Beansie Takes IKEA

Here is a picture of Beans when she is not being terrified by the big guy in red.

And here she is ET style at IKEA today. She loves soft stuffies. Of course she got to take one of the cuddly dogs home.

Beansie's Take on Santa

So the tradition is to go to the mall on Christmas Eve and see Santa. For the first couple of years this worked great, as the mall was empty. Now someone knows my secret and the line has been getting longer and longer. Last year was Beans first picture with Santa, and the reaction is expected. She was just 2 months old.

However, this year we were hoping for a different reaction, after all she loves people and being out and about. Not so much.

Here's hoping for next year?

Twig Christmas Trees

I found some different versions of stick or twig Christmas trees. I like the Charlie Brown effect. Wouldn't one of these make a cool Advent calendar. You could hang stenciled envelopes on the tree with sayings or activities that a family could do together for the day. Wrinklies have ambitious ideas. It's our follow through that stinks.

Today was my last day of school. Christmas vacation starts tomorrow. I have a couple of projects to finish up before I leave for Amber's tomorrow. Shocking, I know.

Holiday Goodies

Hey girls, remember our version of gingerbread houses? In true Wrinkly fashion, I hot glued graham crackers together and we slathered them with store bought frosting and candies. We just ate around the glue. yum!

The holiday treat below is more our style. Isn't it cute? I was in Jo Ann's today and they have Christmas 70% off already. I bought some coordinated cupcake liners and picks. I got penguins and gingerbread men.

I love the poster below. I've seen it on various blogs. I think someone sells it on Etsy.

A Lovely Blog

I hope you are having a restful Sunday. I am browsing the web and watching Sunday Morning on CBS. I just found another fabulous blog at www.thebedlamofbeefy.blogspot.com . I love the way he groups pictures. You can see the links to the pictures below on his blog. Enjoy

Don't you just love his words of wisdom?

Well today is crunch day. I have projects to finish and baking to do. In wrinkly fashion, I have waited until the last moment to finish up my Christmas goodies.

Okay Amber, You Win

Amber and Mike swear by their Dyson upright. I have always had a Kenmore canister. However I complain and whine about the cloud of cat hair that I could not get rid of no matter how often I vacuumed. Well I broke down and bought the DC14 Animal version below. It arrived in the mail and was a snap to put together. I vacuumed a small swath across the living room carpet. Yeah, I'm embarrassed. There is a cloud of peach fuzz from Arnie the big orange cat in the canister. I do feel a little smart though. I bought a refurbished one and saved $200. So I now have no reason to go to work with a hairy butt. What?!!

Mantle Idea - Felted Balls

Hey Amber I found the mantle below at Style Files. I got curious about the felted balls that make up the wreath. Pickles has a DIY with pictures OR you can just buy them. Reading the How-to made me think of a Martha Stewart recipe I read years ago. It was a recipe for Eggs Benedict. She literally went out back and gathered the eggs from her own collection of exotic chickens - yeaaah. So, go see how you take carded wool and roll it into little balls with soapy fingers. Hmmmm.

A Mantle Dilemma

So I own a very large snowman collection, one that has outgrown my slender little mantle. Now I am faced with a dilemma, and a very spare mantle. I am unsure where to go with my decorating, and I would like to use what I have. I googled mantle decorations, lots of pages popped up, but many of them were the same photos over and over again. Here where a few originals:

I liked the beads on the one above, and the red and white on the one below. Photo above is from an unknown source, below is from Country Living.

I enjoy the antique toppers on this mantle, from Jonathon Klunk.

Renegade Pete

Just a couple photos courtesy of Kim at Yellow Brick Home of Pete's fabulous pipes as featured at the booth Pups and Pipes at Renegade. You make Wrinklies proud!

Lonny - Online Magazine

I stumbled on a wonderful online style magazine. I have a few examples from the December issue below. It's easy to navigate and the pictures are beautiful. Plus you can scroll your mouse across the pictures and if a square shows up around an item, click on it and it takes you to the site where you can buy the item. How cool!!

The next two pictures are of the home of Lulu Powers.

The two pictures below are from the home of Albert Hadley.

The last ones come from Angele Parlange's home.

Go to www.lonnymag.com to read this great magazine.

Happy Times

I belong to an organization called VSA arts. We provide arts experiences for the disabled. One of our programs is a once a month arts experience for our adult and high school aged center-based students. Last month artist Martina Hahn, see below, conducted a drawing class at Crooked Tree Art Center.

Tomorrow, Jamie Platte will lead a vocal workshop and Christmas sing - along. We will also make ornaments and decorate reindeer cookies like those below. I love the holidays! Just as an aside - Jamie is one of Amber's oldest friends. She sang in Amber's wedding. Now she is in her own band, Jamie and the Juveniles. I tried to upload a video from Youtube, but I couldn't get it to work. Jamie also teaches voice lessons. I'll try to get some pictures to post tomorrow.
