I can post without pictures

My Javascript is fried on this computer so I can post text but no pictures. I know I said I would pack up my computer and send it south but then I would be without anything, since I only have the one laptop. So I think I will limp along until I see Amber and Mike again. I can always add the pictures after work at school for now.

I went snowshoeing with my friend S last night. We went to Camp Dagget and they had the trails lit with tikki lamps. It was a beautiful night and tons of people came out for the event - little kids to gramdmas :) It was such a cool feeling to walk in the woods at night with just the tikkis to light the way. S and I went to dinner afterwards at Knot Just a Bar. I had a very yummy grilled salmon salad.

I am back on the weight loss wagon. One of the schools where I work started a Biggest Loser club. It goes for eight weeks until Spring Break. There will be weekly prizes and a grand prize at the end for the most percentage of weight loss. Just knowing there are others in this with me makes a huge difference. I feel accountable and that's a good thing.

Well I'm off to go grocery shopping. I'm going to make a cauliflower salad that is supposed to taste like potatoe salad and I'm also making a batch of 90 calorie cupcakes to take to work. Both recipes come from a Hungry Girl cookbook of 200 recipes under 200 calories.

PS In order to help Mom along, I posted some photos!

Lego Construction

I found the most interesting site.  go to http://www.dispatchwork.info.com/  and check out the Lego constructions from all over the world.  People fill in cracks and holes of buildings with Lego magic.  The first two below are from France.  The last three are from New York City.  I think one may be in Brooklyn.  Sounds  like scavenger hunt for when we go in June.  I can just see M walking around town looking for cracked walls to fill in

with those colorful little tiles!!

Bacon Brittle and Other Thoughts

Hey Amber I found some yummy chocolate-bacon brittle from Sir Francis Bacon Brittle via http://ohjoy.blogs.com/ It sounds like an interesting flavor combo doesn't it?

I am still having computer woes.  I am going to pack mine up and send it downstate to Amber.  Her hubby Mike, will do his magic and hopefully make it work again.  In the meantime I will try to blog on my lunch hour or after school.  Have a great weekend.  It is supposed to be super cold here.  Sounds like a good weekend to hunker down with a good book or old movies.  Maybe both?

Book Porn

So Uncle Beefy over at The Bedlam of Beefy turned me onto Pinterest, "A place to catalog the things you love." And low and behold, a catagory aptly titled, Book Porn.

So let us fall back through time in the Book Spiral......

To just a few short weeks ago, when we were filled with bookish holiday cheer....

We turned on our night lights.....

And sugar plum book fairies danced in our heads.

Snowflakes!

So it rained, and all our snow is sad and gray. If it going to be January and cold, I want some real just-shaken-snowglobe goodness! Not the crusty we-have-another-4-months-of-dismal-Michigan-winter dreariness! So here are a few little snowflake pretties...

This beautiful necklace gave me the snowflake bug! Designed by O-shan Urban Elegance, as seen at Design Break.

Quill work snowflakes! So crafty! We can make these, and so can you over at Craft Ideas for All.

Since wrinklies love cupcakes, how about these little gems! Found at Paper Orchid.

Embroidery found on KrazyKK's Weblog, does that smaller design look familiar?

Bamboletta Dolls

I. Love. These. Dolls. I noticed on Facebook that a high school friend of mine had "liked" something called Bamboletta Dolls, and Shelly, you may have gotten me into big trouble! These are the cutest dolls ever! I may be buying many of them for Beans. To the dismay of my husband! If you want to adopt do visit their website or Facebook page.

Atomic Clocks

I am falling down on the job! I was supposed to be posting lots since Mom is suffering from an acute computer ailment, and I have not!

So here is a new post!! My new obsession, Atomic 1950's wall clocks. Go figure.

And I just bought one on ebay. These little beauties are spendy! I snapped mine up quick with Buy it Now, so it was considerably less than those that went the full auction. Some were almost $200! I will post a pic when I get it. Yippee!

DIY Wall Hooks

Aren't these the cutest hooks.  I found them at http://bkids.typepad.com from Teri at Giddy Giddy.  You can go to BKid for the directions.  The possibilities are endless.  I still haven't solved my computer woes.  Will try to post again before the weekend.

Cupcakes

Aren't these pretty cupcakes They are almond orange mini cupcakes made over at http://cupcakeblog.com/  The recipe can be found there.  She has very interesting flavor combinations.  She has a chocolate cupcake with sea salt caramel frosting that sounds divine.

I'm still having computer woes so will post when I get my hands on a cooperative computer again.

Wishing for a Snow Day

It is snowing hard out today.  Nice big fluffy flakes, but no wind.  so my wish for a snow day is an empty one.  The snowplows in northern Michigan are just too good.. We need snow and wind!  I am having computer problems and need to take mine in.  So my posts may be infrequent till I get it fixed.

What I Like Today . . .

I found these cool post-it notes by Yuruliku at http://www.spoon-tamago.com/ They are shaped like individual blades of grass and when you use several in a book, it looks lie the book is growing. Sweet huh? Yo can't do that with a Kindle!

The images below come from the site http://psimadethis.com/ She shows us an inspiration board and then she shows us something she was inspired to make. Go check out her blog. She's designed some pretty terrific things.

1-1-11

Here we are on the first day of the new year. I have been thinking and browsing to see what kind of resolutions I might make. I like the one below about hosting tea parties on the porch. I could do that on my deck or patio though (no porch).

This one is all good!

I like this one the best - try, learn, give, improve. Yep I've found my resolutions - try, learn, give, and improve.
