When Life gives You . . . . .

What do you do when you have a torn up bathroom, severe thunderstorms, a flooded basement and a drooly monster mess of sickness?  Well, you make cake pops, that's what, because let's face it lemonade just doesn't cut it.  I know we are late to the cake pop party but I thought they looked so cute.  Then I went online and discovered just how they are made.  Eeeeuw!!  Let's just say it's messy and they have no nutritional value whatsoever.  M . enjoyed the demolition phase.  We didn't take any process pictures because it was too gross.

The finished product is very pretty though.  We didn't have lollipop sticks so we used cut down bamboo skewers.

Drooly monster is feeling much better today.

Small Cool Spaces

I tell you what, when it rains, it pours!  I am down at Amber's for a visit.  Mike is going to take over my condo for a golf weekend with his friends.  Everything was going well until Beans came down with Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease.  It has been running through her daycare.  Poor miserable baby!  Since I was here yesterday to watch her, Amber could still go to work.  They are having their second bathroom redone and the contractor needed a paint roller.  So I opened the basement door to go get one and their basement was flooded.  Swell.  I called Amber and she had to come home anyway.  She and Mike cleaned up what they could with the shop vac.  They put a call into a clean up crew.  There had been a storm the night before and they couldn't get here until today.  Then on top of it all poor Beans was a wreck last night and screamed a lot.  There was another big thunder storm and the cats got into a huge fight in the house at about 3am this morning.

I meant to share this cool small space with you, but I had to get all that off my chest first.   Apartment Therapy has a contest every year for great small apartment design.  The one below is the winner of the smallest division - teeny tiny.  This apartment is in Manhattan and has 397 square feet.

They didn't have pictures of the kitchen or bathroom, but it says they have one of each.

Tiny Rant and Very Cool Kid's Rooms

First my tiny rant.  I found the Lego picture below on a well designed pretty professional looking blog and the blogger credited the source as Pinterest.  Not Good.  Pinterest is like Google Images.  They are not the original source.  I didn't realize how important it is to get the source right until I read a complaint about all this on another blog.  My blog is just for grins and giggles, but for some it is their livelihood.  So when you don't bother to link back to all their hard original work, you are stealing.  It only took me a minute or two to trace back the source of these too cute kid's rooms.  They were designed by Alyson McNutt English and were featured on Interior Home Furniture

Something for the tank princess, per chance?

Okay, maybe not the whole room because it does look a little like a padded cell.  How about just a few panels, it's just too darn cool!!

Feline Interior Design

I moved some furniture around recently with Amber and Mike's help.  We brought the club chairs up from downstairs.  Obviously the kitties approve.  Isn't it creepy that Arnie's eyes glow so much bigger that Ike's. Oh wait, everything about Arnie is jumbo sized.

So Pretty

Ooooh, two posts in one day.  I can not resist these dresses.  I can only imagine the life you would have to live in order to have someplace to wear one of these beauties.  They are from the Dior Spring Collection.  I found them on a Bulgarian blog called Bittersweet-Vogue.

Do the colors on this one remind you of something?

I love, love, love this one.

Feet Don't Fail Me Now

I went to a concert in Bay View last night with my friend Sharon.  Bay View usually has classical performances and Broadway musicals.  They must be mixing it up this year, because Rhythmic Circus is anything but classical.

They are an amazing group of dancers and musicians that combine tap and great music.  They are so high energy, I was exhausted just watching them.

The performance was in Hall Auditorium.  The audience was mostly Bay View types and they ate it up!

So You Can Make a Quilt Out of Anything

I found a home tour of Karen Inderbitzen-Walller - photographer and stylist and Delphine Avril Planqueel - retoucher and lighting director in Auckland New Zealand.  They were featured on The Selby website.  The quilt on their bed is made entirely of "vintage" women's underwear.  Doesn't that just mean used and old?  I have no problem with most vintage clothes, but sleeping under all that gives me the creeps.  Check out the boob-a-licious show pillows.  There are no words for the hanging garter fringe.

Enchanting Tree Houses

I have a fascination with tree houses.  Maybe it's because I lived in the trees for so many years in my old house and now I again live on the second level of my condo and overlook the trees on a golf course. Looking out my windows,  makes me feel like I live in the trees.  I love the feeling.  Here are some lovely tree houses to dream about.

Southern Accents

Found a great blog at the website for Southern Accents Magazine.  They feature show homes.  Here is one called the Riverhills Show House in Texas decorated in the English countryside style.  There were so many rooms pictured, that I picked the "exotic" ones to show.  This house must have a zillion square feet.

The Loggia

The Conservatory with the lead pipe and Miss Scarlet

The Powder Room

The Entry Way

The Stair Hall

The Game Room

The Children's Library, and yes there is grown up library too.

Bits and Pieces

I have really been enjoying myself these past few days.  I went to lunch with two friends on Friday.  We did my favorite day trip.  We drove up M119 to Cross Village and ate lunch at Legs Inn.  The weather was beautiful so we ate out in the sun on the patio.  Next, we stopped at Three Pines Studio.  They were setting up for a new show.  But this is for you Amber.  They host an event called Fairy Fridays.  Eight little girls came for an afternoon of Fairy business.  Several of the girls came dressed as fairies.  It was the cutest thing to see.  Beans will love this in a couple of years!!

Oh snap!!  I just figured out how to upload a video from YouTube.

We also visited Primitive Images and Studio A in Good Hart.  Each of us found a treasure we couldn't live without.  There is a crepe stand between the two stores.  My friends each had a yummy sweet treat and I had a refreshing lemonade. It was a perfect way to spend an afternoon with good friends.

Yesterday I went to the Petoskey Art Fair and bought a very pretty place setting.  I'm too lazy to get up and take a picture but I will take one soon.  However I do have a picture of a drink I had in New York.  I'm sure you'll find this fascinating.

Life's complete now, right?  Notice the little plastic bull riding the straw.  The restaurant is the Cowgirl .  It had great food and a very distinctive sense of humor.  The wait staff wore tee shirts that read "Dismaying Vegetarians since 1988."

Nubs Nob, iPads and Sunflowers

Yesterday was a perfect summer day.  I started off with a work related meeting.  What?  Teachers work in the summer.  No, No, they play all summer and expect a year round salary!  Now when I tell you what I did all morning, don't hate me.  I belong to our assistive technology committee at Char -Em.  We meet monthly to discuss new technology and how it helps students access curriculum.  We wrote a proposal to have iPads to use with students and collect data on how kids learn using the iPad.  So I spent the morning yesterday becoming familiar with my new iPad!  I will spend the summer uploading educational apps.  I already know which students I will use it with.  I am so excited!  I will also lend it to special education teachers in my districts when I am not using it.  I want this baby to be used all day long.

After my meeting I went to the annual art fair at Nubs Nob.  I love this one, there are so many talented vendors.  I brought a little cash to keep me from going crazy.  Guess what?  They take checks and credit cards.  Hmmmmm.  I could not resist this painted suitcase table.  Marsha Reed had so many fabulous pieces. She doesn't have a website but you can reach her at skiplett@comcast.net

I also bought this very fun lamp.  Remember I have been looking for unique lamps and boy this one is a beauty.  It comes from the people at Heather Lane Pottery.  I am so in love with this lamp!

I ended my day at my weekly painting class.   We are painting floor cloths with big beautiful sunflowers.  I love painting sunflowers!  They make me happy.  I told my painting friends about the painted suitcase table and we may attempt to do one as well.  Yeah!!

Memory Boats and Travel Inspirations

I went to an artist talk to day at the Crooked Tree Art Center.  The Artist is Elizabeth Fergus-Jean.  She has an installation of what she calls memory boats.  They are grouped according to the seasons and their cargo also reflects the seasons.  It was so interesting to hear the "why and how" of her art.

I stumbled on the site run by Sunsurfer.  He searched the web for stunning photos from around the world.  I have picked just a few of the many incredible places I would like to see.

Fortuneswell, England

Mykonis, Greece

Galicia, Spain

Dracula's Castle, Romania

Check out the site.  It will make you want to pack your bags.
