Thanksgiving Weekend in Review.

I had the best Thanksgiving this year.  Amber and her family came for the long weekend. I'll tell you all about it but first  I thought I'd share a shot of my mantle.  I"m quite proud of the subway art that I got off of Pinterest.  See I do have something to show for all those hours minutes I spend filling my boards.  Anyway, we always cook the turkey on the grill.  So Amber and I got it all fixed up and started the grill.  It was cooking very very slowly and it didn't get any hotter when we turned up the heat.  We were mystified.  Mike took a look at it and we somehow had it on safety - the heat stayed on low no matter what we did.  He did his magic and turned the fire up on the bird.

Miss L couldn't wait for the turkey so she had a Thanksgiving Hebrew National and yes she stuck the slices in her mashed potatoes

We were getting a little bored waiting for the bird.  Notice the Thanksgiving crackers on the table?

Yeah, they were filled with confetti.  That stuff got everywhere!

Finally, the turkey was ready and it was a masterpiece.  Well worth the wait.

M was impressed.  He took no time to finish off that drumstick.

I realized that I only got shots of Miss L running away from the camera this weekend.  Here she is watching Yo Gabba Gabba.

So here is a picture of her from a few weeks ago when she was playing in the leaves.  What a cutie, right?

The next day was unusually warm and sunny.  Amber wanted to recreate a very cool family picture that she found on Pinterest.  Do we see a pattern here?  This was the first hilarious attempt.  Normally the kids love to be flipped upside down, but Miss L looks like she thinks mom will drop her.  This is when the battery in my camera died.  We switched to Amber's camera and got some good shots.  Now it's up to her to post the final project.  We had a lovely visit and now it is the whirlwind leading up to Christmas!!

Holiday Thursday

I can't believe that it will be Thanksgiving a week from today.  This year has just screamed by.  I thought you might like to see a few turkeys, so you can get in the spirit and all.

Book Nook

My book club met last night.  And yes we call ourselves the Bad Girls Book Club and we live up to our slogan.  We meet once a month at a different member's house.  The hostess picks the book to be discussed at her house.  We also try to serve food that is mentioned in the book.  For example, we had chocolate pie for The Help and no one had a second slice :)  We will be reading Holiday on Ice for December.  Oh we have also added a new twist, each hostess serves a different cocktail.  Yum.  Do we discuss the book?  Well with all that eating and drinking, and gossiping we don't have too much time left for the book.  But that's okay since so many of us don't read it anyway.  Can't wait till next month!!

Tiny Caravans

I love, love, love tiny caravans!  Wouldn't one of these make a fabulous guest house in the back garden.  Or maybe a playhouse or the female version of a man cave?  There is something magical about a small space.  I'd fill it with flowers and books and overstuffed chairs.  Maybe a kitty or two.  How would you decorate yours?

Holiday Thursday Late . . . . . Again

I love Thanksgiving and I am extra excited this year.  I will be hosting dinner here this year.  I have found so many great ideas.  Amber and I framed some subway art with IKEA frames.  I have mine up on my mantle.  I'll try to get some pictures for next week.  I have a cornucopia basket on the floor in front of my mantle with a fall floral spray in it and some fabric pumpkins.  Ike is soooo thankful.  He thinks the pumpkins are for him and he bats them around the living room.  He's pretty funny.   Enjoy the Thanksgiving ideas below and have a great weekend.

Altered Books

I had a meeting yesterday at the office.  There was a pile of free books that had been donated by a retired psychologist.  They were all from the 60's and 70's.  I picked one out to try some altered book art.  It is something about mental hygiene.  I showed it to one of our psychologists and she got excited.  She said that the author was a very funny pragmatic doctor.  One of his quotes was, "If you have a bed wetter and a pyromaniac,  put the bed wetter in the bunk above the fire starter."  I told my friend that maybe I shouldn't mess up his book.  She told be to go ahead because he would think it was fun.  Here are some examples from some very talented folks.

Holiday Thursday

Wow, this time of year is super busy.  I spent a lovely time at Amber's.  We celebrated M's ninth birthday and Halloween.  I spent a crazy week at work again.  I sound like a broken record don't I?  I did however take the time today to take down Halloween and set out some Thanksgiving goodies.  I love the collection of mantles below.  Enjoy!
