I'm spending New Year's Eve with Amber and her family. I found a very cute idea at Homemaking Fun. We are going to make grab bags for each hour leading up to midnight. M can open them and do the activities as the evening progresses. I'll let you know how he likes it.
Whether you are celebrating the new year in Paris . . .
or somewhere closer to home - have fun and be safe!!!!

I try to make New Year's resolutions each year I never make practical ones like lose weight. One year I read as many books as I could with the word moon in them, that was fun. I decided to try something new this year and do something once a week, I thought I was being so creative and then I googled 52 week projects and just look what I found!
Here is a really cool idea from Steve Here is his explanation: The idea for the the 52 Week Project is simple: every week I will select and write about at least one audio or visual clip from the many sources of free educational content on the web. The only caveat? The topic has to be something about which I know almost nothing. This guarantees that I go out of my comfort zone, learn new things, expose myself to criticism, and hopefully come away with a positive experience.
The next project was an art journal that asked and answered a question a week. Very creative.
The 52 week project below concentrated on taking a self portrait a week and posting it to a flickr account.
The ladies below challenged each other to try something new each week. This is somehow tied to The Happiness Project, the book I am supposed to read for January and haven't bought yet.
I just took a quick poll at lunch and my grandson suggested eating a new pizza each week and his dad though I should drink a new cocktail every week. Hmmm. Tempting, but I'm going to think a little longer . . . .

Maybe it's the time of year, but I'm getting wanderlust again I know I have featured Meghan from Designtripper in the past But now she's gone and opened a Bed and Breakfast in Detroit called Honor and Folly. she's a freelance writer and blogger so I'll let her words tell you about her latest venture:
A small-scale, design-focused b&b in Detroit, Honor & Folly is reminiscent of the way folks used to travel: a few beds above the village pub or restaurant with a hearty breakfast. You'll be immersed in the oldest neighborhood of Detroit - smack in the middle of one of the most thriving blocks in the city. You'll sit next to locals at the bar downstairs—or the coffee shop—and learn about the city from people who live here. Detroiters are a pretty friendly lot.

She also has a shop where she sells many of the things on display in the B and B. She also plans to host cooking events. Sounds like fun!!

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. I spent the holiday with my family. We don't have snow, but it's been cold enough. Today, Amber and I went to some after Holiday sales. We bought half off supplies to make ornaments with my grand kids. We'll work on those this coming week. I found some felt crafts as seen below. This seems like the time of year to snuggle up on the couch with a cup of tea and a lap project or two Aren't these the sweetest?

I went to see the Petoskey High School Madrigals perform at the Perry Hotel tonight. They were wonderful as always. The dinner was yum too. I love to go to these. I first went with my family when the girls were young. They were mesmerized by the beautiful voices and the gorgeous costumes. Rachael became a Madrigal when she was in high school. They sang many of the same songs tonight, even the duet the two Rachaels sang. It brought back so many good memories. Rachael's costume is still being used and it wasn't new when she wore it. It still looks great!

Is it just me or are the songs for commercials getting cooler? I love the soundtrack for the latest Chase bank commercial. You know, the rock climbing one. Wow, LP, the artist is amazing!
L.P. is an incredible artist and songwriter from New York City who is now living in L.A. With a unique and powerful voice, she has been compared to Janis Joplin and Jeff Buckley, yet has a style and sound all her own. She is currently in the studio crafting her new album with a host of producers including Red One, and is also in high demand as a songwriter working with A-level artists such as Rihanna (Cheers) and producers such as The Matrix and David Guetta. In a crowded musical landscape littered with one hit wonders and mediocre talent, LP stands out as a real artist with meaningful music. The only real way to describe her is to hear her.
L.P. has had her music featured in movies and TV shows. In 2001, "Kiss It All Goodbye" from her Heart-Shaped Scar album was featured in the movie, "The Safety of Objects," starring Glenn Close. Also, her track, "Wasted," from album Suburban Sprawl & Alcohol, was the theme song for the television show "South Of Nowhere" on The N. MTV's The Hills has also been using a co-write with Isaac Hasson entitled "Damage Is Done" in mid-2010, which has been released to iTunes
Don't you just love the song for the current J'Adore commercial? I had no idea who Beth Ditto was until I heard her bands song Heavy Cross as the commercial's soundtrack She is crazy good!!!
Beth Ditto is known for her noticeable stage dances and her unique and revealing image. She is the lead singer of the group Gossip. She was a contributor to an advice column on body image to The Guardian newspaper. In February 2009, she was featured in London as the cover model for the premiere of Love magazine. On July 9, 2009, Beth's fashion collection for the UK retailer Evans was released for sale, both online, and in selected stores across the UK. She has been an outspoken advocate for large women being body -positive and has been regularly photographed as an editorial model Her most recent modeling work consisted of opening the Jean Paul Gaultier spring 2011 fashion show during Paris Fashion Week on October 2, 2010. I think I've already mentioned that my friend Sharon and I go to Solace Spa at Boyne Mountain for a restorative yoga class on Sundays. We had a very full class today. Business has picked up at the Mountain since several ski runs have opened. It all went well though. Reb our instructor is so relaxed and easy going, that she always runs a very relaxing session. Sharon and I went into the relaxation room afterwards as did several other people from yoga. We sat on our favorite squishy chaise lounges, sipping tea and eating our energy bars. The others left and Sharon and I had another cup of tea. A woman came in very agitated. She said she had come for a treatment and hadn't expected so much noise. She kept saying she needed five minutes of quiet. She had a magazine she was going to read. We smiled and continued to talk low. She asked, "Isn't this the quiet room?" in a snotty voice. So we began to whisper. She shouted at us "You are not going to whisper are you?!!!" We were startled and I asked her if she wanted us to leave and she said yes. We were shocked but it struck us as so funny. It isn't the dead quiet room, it is a coed relaxation area closed off by a curtain. Lots of noise, all the time. We got up and left and got the giggles. I'm sure she heard us. A mom walked by with a couple of little kids. I suggested that she take the kids in the relaxation room to try out the comfy chairs.

Good heavens, I am still waiting for our first real snow. It's cold enough and it has been super windy today and still only a few flurries. I know, I know, I will regret wishing for snow in February but I'd sure like just a little now. Here's a few snowflakes for inspiration.

I can't believe I am even suggesting this, but it's time for some snow. I went to our little town's Christmas Open House last night with a friend and it was a tiny bit weird. There was no snow on the ground! The ski resorts up here have been busy making snow at night just to have it melt during the day. Remind me in February that I wished for this. The pictures below come from Colorful Life, a wonderful Tumblr site of amazing pictures. Go take a look.

Here we are on the first day of December. Open that first door on the Advent calendar and look for the sassy elf. Here are some pictures that people took of their silly little friends. M reports that his elf Alex was having a snowball fight with Bakugans and Hello Kitty. It all started with a book and an elf.
Reading a book to the PEZ guys.
Watching a Christmas movie with some popcorn and pop.
Tangled up in Christmas Lights
Swinging from the lights.
Sleeping on the Kleenex
