Happy Leap Day!

Leap Year was historically a year of gender role-reversal: once every four years, women were allowed to propose marriage to men. The creator of  the American comic strip character "Sadie Hawkins," spawned the February 29th trend of "Sadie Hawkins Dances." At these, women could boldly invite the man of their choice out on a date, typically to a dance attended by other bachelors and their assertive dates.

Jonathan Adler Love

He started out as a potter and now he is a design guru.  I love the white ceramics and the pops of color.  His style is simple and cheery and makes me smile.  Don't you just love these rooms?

This is his shop in Greenwich Village.  We were there last summer during our NYC trip.  I wanted everything!

Grilled Cheese Sandwich Heaven

I found the picture below at Where the Lovely Things Are and it got me to thinking.  I love grilled cheese sandwiches.  I love plain old cheese only, all melted and gooey, dunked in a bowl of tomato soup.  However, the lovely beauties below sound awesome.  What's your favorite combination?

Are you ready for Valentine's Day yet?  I'm going to bake up a batch of chocolate cupcakes with fancy toppings.

Make a pretty centerpiece.

Handmade Shoes . . .What????

Be still my beating heart!  The whiz bang over at My Shoeology has created these nifty patterns.  I am going to order a combo pack myself.  You know, if you're not going to make one pair, you might as well get busy and not make three pair.  No, really, let's have a shoe making bee and make some ballet flats.  I'm thinking sock monkey fabric.  Classy as always.

Red Polka Dots

Happy weekend to all.  I had a crazy week again, full of sniffles and sneezes.  I even took a sick day on Thursday.  Felt good enough to go back to work yesterday and meet friends for dinner.  Two Friday nights in a row at Cafe Sante!  Yeah!  I missed Holiday Thursday again so here are a few red lovelies.  Polka dots make me happy.  Aren't these little jugs sweet?

Mossy Magic

Maybe it's because this has been a crazy mixed up winter, but it feels like spring is coming with all the warm weather we have been having.  The snow is melting but I know it's too early to think about growing things.  Oh my, look at this!  You can grow moss on walls.  I think this is pretty amazing.

The fair Venetian hears the splash of oars,
The tide that ripples by the mossy wall

Moss

How must it be
to be moss,
that slipcover of rocks?—
imagine,

greening in the dark,
longing for north,
the silence
of birds gone south.

How does moss do it,
all day
in a dank place
and never a cough?—

a wet dust
where light fails,
where the chisel
cut the name.

All overgrown by cunning moss, by Emily Dickinson
All overgrown by cunning moss,
All interspersed with weed,
The little cage of "Currer Bell"
In quiet "Haworth" laid.

Gathered from many wanderings --
Gethsemane can tell
Thro' what transporting anguish
She reached the Asphodel!

Soft falls the sounds of Eden
Upon her puzzled ear --
Oh what an afternoon for Heaven,
When "Bronte" entered there
